The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce that Deputy Sheriff K9 “Kid” will be the next deputy to be assigned to the patrol division.
Kid is a 2 ½ year old German Shepard who will be assigned to K9 handler Sergeant Joseph Nicholas. Kid will be trained in narcotics detection, tracking and handler protection. Sergeant Nicholas and K9 Kid began their training on Monday and we anticipate they will complete their training and be assigned to their normal patrol duties the week of July 11.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office has formed an excellent working relationship with Jessie Smith of Jessiffany Canine Services, LLC of Iron Ridge. Jessie has been working with our K9’s for the past year and has done excellent work. Jessie has located a private grant for us to obtain K9 Kid at no cost to the county and the training costs for the sheriff’s office have also been greatly reduced. As a result, the cost for the addition of K9 Kid to our staff is very minimal as it relates to acquiring and training a new K9 deputy. These costs will be paid for out of funds raised by the K9 handlers at various fundraising events like the annual K9 Golf outing.
K9 Kid will join K9 Ziva as our second K9 at the sheriff’s office. K9 Ziva and her handler Deputy Gilbert Fairman have been together for 5 years and we look forward to their continued success into the future. K9 Kid fills the vacant position that K9 Paige left upon her announced retirement last week.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office would like to sincerely thank Jessiffany Canine Services, LLC and Jesse Smith for their dedication to Dodge County and for supporting the community in which they live. We also feel it is important, that having a quality trainer within Dodge County, we do business locally with them. We are proud to have Jessiffany Canine Services, LLC as our trainer for both Dodge County Sheriff’s K9 deputies and also other K9s that are working in Dodge County.
