July 15, 2021 – West Bend, WI – It is considered a “new” Dairy Queen but at the ribbon cutting Thursday morning, so much of the “old” establishment show up… it was Scrumpdillyishus and heartwarming.
“And on the count of three” new owners and veterans of the DQ franchise cut the red ribbon to the new DQ Grill & Chill, 1043 S. Main Street.
Kevin Scheunemann is the co-owner along with William Symicek.
Former DQ franchise owners Jerry and Nancy Mehring came dressed to work in their vintage uniforms.
Nancy’s yellow dress with DQ logo and paper hat dated to 1969 and Jerry’s outfit including paper hat, white shirt and black bowtie dated to 1956.
Jerry started with DQ when he was 16 years old; he was the youngest franchise operator in the country.
The Mehrings spent 53 years in the industry; it was in January 2014 when they received the devastating news that the two remaining DQ’s in West Bend were closed and the buildings would go to the bank.
Today, seven years later, a celebration surrounding the return of the DQ franchise.
Awesome 👍👍👍😎
Seems like Elaine Ertl and Neal Brace should’ve been there.
