April 8, 2020 – Washington Co., WI – Mother Nature let rip with a brief but powerful storm on Tuesday afternoon and it appears folks in the Jackson area picked up a bit of hail.
Quite a few shared their photos on social media. Rumbles of thunder started after 3:45 p.m. and as the skies grew dark to the west the National Weather Service issued a thunderstorm warning for parts of Washington and Ozaukee Counties.
The warning initially expired at 4:15 p.m. but was later extended to 4:30 p.m.
Hail was reported off Sylvan Way, Washington County Fair Park, Paradise Drive, Silver Lake and Big Cedar Lake.
Jonathan Cobb said he had “about 10 minutes of hail on Highway 144 around Big Cedar Lake. Dime size, no wind just lots of thunder.”
Neighbors compared hail measurements from a full inch to an 1/8 of an inch. Some said it was bigger than a quarter, like small gumballs, and Jennifer Hempelman found a skull cracker in the Town of Jackson.
Michelle Becker in Cedarburg also harvested a couple monsters.
