July 3, 2018 – West Bend, WI – Moraine Park Technical College is committed to student success, and encouraging student engagement in the local community is a large part of helping college students find success beyond college. For this reason, the College unveiled its new Service-Learning Award program for students during the 2017-18 school year.
The Service-Learning Award is a recognition program designed by the College to acknowledge students who are committed to serving their community. Students who completed over 50 hours of service learning, logged their hours, and submitted a reflection on their service time at Moraine Park, received an award.
Earning a silver award for 50-99 hours of service are Taylor Boelhower of Slinger, Margaret Chitwood of Slinger, Heather Elmer of Fond du Lac, Chris Fellenz of West Bend, Anita Gudex of North Fond du Lac, Hannah Harder of Burnett, Alysha Kurz of Theresa, Trish LaBlanc of Horicon, Terry Mouthey of Malone, and Tammy Overbo of Mount Calvary.
Earning a gold award for 100 + hours of service are Philip Conley of Waupun, Alexander McCleary of Fond du Lac, Latrice Miszewski of Beaver Dam, Samantha Stam of Beaver Dam, and Becky Weyer of Randolph.
The College supports these commitments by encouraging students to participate in service learning opportunities, which allows them to apply their classroom knowledge in an applicable, real-world environment. Service learning enhances the curriculum of the class, requires student reflection, addresses a community issue or problem, benefits both the student and the service agency, and connects learning and assessment to the real world.
