April 6, 2022 – West Bend, Wi – It was February 2001 when the Mega Menards of West Bend, WI first opened at 575 W. Paradise Drive. The 171,000-square-foot facility had eight departments, a lumber yard and the Packers Jerry Kramer was featured as a guest at the store opening.
Now, 21 years later, the store is reportedly small by today’s standards. On Wednesday, April 6, 2022 the Plan Commission will address a proposal for a 12,500-square-foot expansion. The conundrum is the site is pretty landlocked.
The expansion of Menards would be to the west of the current building as there’s a request to combine two lots and then shift the park and ride over to the northwest of 2180 S. Main Street, which is the address for Meijer.

The second part of the Menards expansion proposal involves a 90-stall parking lot for a Park and Ride on the south side of Parkway Drive.
There are multiple development proposals on Wednesday’s agenda: A building addition for five Below on south end of former Shopko (where garden center used to be), plans for the layout of Panera Bread and Chipotle Mexican Grill, and a large project on Sand Drive with a 96-unit multifamily, 115-unit senior housing, assisted living and memory care facility.
The Plan Commission meeting begins 6 p.m. on Wednesday in the council chambers at City Hall, 1115 S. Main Street.
