Name of man, 74, released following vehicle vs. pedestrian accident in Sheboygan Co., WI

July 7, 2023 – Sheboygan Co., WI – The name of the man killed in a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident on the morning of July 4, 2023, has been released by the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department.

Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at approximately 8:01 a.m., the Sheboygan County Emergency Communications Center received an emergency call reporting an unresponsive male in the ditch in the Town of Sheboygan.

The caller reported hearing a loud noise outside and when they went outside to investigate, they located the unresponsive male in the ditch.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The suspect has been apprehended along with the vehicle involved with this incident. The suspect and victim names are not being released at this time pending official charges from the District Attorney’s Office as well as notification of the family.

The following public safety agencies assisted in this incident: Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, Sheboygan Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Town of Sheboygan Fire Department, Town of Sheboygan First Responders, and Orange Cross Ambulance.

****UPDATE******

The incident, a single vehicle vs. pedestrian crash, occurred in the 2800 block of Enterprise Drive in the Town of Sheboygan. The deceased male is identified as 74-year-old Jan Richmond of Sheboygan.

Richmond had been correctly walking against traffic on the shoulder of Enterprise Drive when he was struck from behind by a minivan that was operated by a 37-year-old male from Sheboygan.  This is still an ongoing investigation.
