On Monday, August 01, 2016 at approximately 1 p.m. a 66-year-old male was driving a pick-up truck eastbound in the 1000 block of W. Washington St. when he crossed the center line and started driving eastbound in the west bound lanes.
In the 900 block the driver drove onto the sidewalk and almost struck a homeowner working in her yard. The driver of the pick-up truck continued to drive east bound in the westbound lanes of W. Washington St. to the intersection of Seventh Avenue.
At the intersection the driver of the pick-up struck a semi-truck that was in the right westbound lane of W. Washington St. The driver of the semi had stopped for the red light when he saw the pick-up truck drive towards him. The driver of the semi-truck sounded his horn in an attempt to alert the driver of the pick-up truck. The driver of the pick-up then crashed head on into the semi-truck.
The driver of the pick-up had to be extricated from his vehicle by the West Bend Fire Department. After the driver was extricated Flight For Life conveyed the man to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. The man is being treated for serious, non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators are attempting to find the reason(s) for the man’s erratic driving.
