Obituary | Lylalee (Williams) Backhaus, 85, of West Bend, WI

January 2, 2025 West Bend, WI – Lylalee (Williams) Backhaus, 85, of West Bend, WI, died peacefully on December 31, 2024, surrounded by her family.

She was born on July 15, 1939, in Shorewood. A daughter to Roy and Grace (Counter). Lyla married her high school sweetheart, Robert A. Backhaus (R.B.) on July 23, 1960, at Immanual Lutheran Church in the Town of Scott. Lyla and Robert spent most of their youth was spent in Beechwood. R.B. preceded her in death on October 6, 2008.

Lyla loved being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved raising her children and being a part of their lives. Lyla was employed at Jeanne’s Country Casuals and Wickes Lumber in Jackson. Some of her hobbies included golf, gardening, feeding the birds, watching the Packers, spending time at the VFW with friends, and baking desserts. She donated time at Riveredge Nature Center.

Those left to cherish Lyla’s memory include her son, John (Dawn) Backhaus of West Bend; daughter, Jill (Chad) Smith of Kewaskum; six grandchildren, Bridget (Jared) Obendorfer, Brad (Brooke) Herriges, Beau (Olivia) Backhaus, Alyssa (Stephen) Dalton, Cade, and Cody Smith; eight great grandchildren, Alivia, Abram, Charlie, Asher, Lane, Atticus, Persephone, and Layla; sister, Chris (Jeffrey) Schiessl; sister in-law, Doris Frost; other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lyla is preceded in death by one son, James Carl, sisters and brother’s in-law.

Per Lyla’s request there will be a small family funeral planned at a later date.
