February 12, 2021 – West Bend, WI – This past December 2020 a story was posted regarding a dilemma at Shalom Wildlife Sanctuary where a wild-born female mute swan landed on the Ehne Lake and fell in love with a flightless male. Swans mate for life.
There were some friendly wagers on the table whether the female swan would stay the winter or would she continue south. Click HERE for the update and early prediction.
Well, now nearly two months later… it appears the harsh reality of the frigid Wisconsin winter has had a chilling effect on true love.
Below is an update from David Fechter, owner of Shalom Wildlife Sanctuary.
The song running through my mind this morning is an old Bobby Vinton hit called “I’m Mr. Lonely.”
The super cold weather was more than the wild female swan could handle. After several days of trying to convince the male who is unable to fly to join her in a flight to a warmer environment, she finally gave up and flew away.
As you can see he is not happy being all alone. He will now have to wait until the Spring thaw to see if she will return. In less than two months he will know if it was true love.
What say you?
