May 13, 2021 – Jackson, WI – The offense was fast and furious in this conference game between St. Francis and Living Word Lutheran, with the Mariners striking first with one run, while the Timberwolves put up two runs in the opening frame.
Living Word Lutheran then jumped to a 4-1 lead by the end of the second inning due mostly to great plate patience.
However, St. Francis struck back in the third inning with five runs, including a ground rule double that drove in two runs.
From there the Mariners went the rest of the game scoring at least one run in the remaining innings.
Baserunning was another key element in this game, as the Mariners notched nine stolen bases, many off mistimed throws, to the Timberwolves three.
The Timberwolves did score a run in the fourth inning, but ultimately left eight runners on base in the game, despite drawing eight walks in a 13-5 loss.
Freshman Beau Kuhl and junior Nathan Culli each had two RBIs for the Timberwolves. Kuhl also had a stolen base.
Pitching wise sophomore Jacob Buske started and pitched the entire game for the Timberwolves. He had a rough night, allowing 14 hits, 13 runs (11 earned), two walks and four strikeouts. Buske did have good overall command of his pitching, but the hitters just had better overall luck in terms of plate vision.
The Timberwolves (1-6) drop their second and final game to the Mariners this season with hopes to get back on track in their next game against Brookfield Academy on Saturday, May 15 at 10 a.m.
The Mariners (3-5) will take on Heritage Christian in their next game Saturday, May 15 at 10 a.m.
