The latest messaging from the National Weather Service is below as it tamps down predicated snowfall totals and stays confident in the chance of strong blowing and drifting.
- Periods of moderate snow across southern Wisconsin today. Temperatures plummet during the day today and winds start to increase, wind chills will fall to -15F to -30F.
- While it remains uncertain if we will see new snow Thursday night through Friday, the combination of fresh snow on the ground and very strong wind gusts will create significant travel impacts across southern Wisconsin. Wind gusts between 45 and 55 mph are expected Thursday night through Friday. This will likely result in significant blowing and drifting of snow, and periods of blizzard conditions.
- A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect now through Saturday morning for southwest and south-central Wisconsin and from 9 a.m. Thursday until Saturday morning.
- In addition to the snow and wind, very cold temperatures will build into the area Thursday. Wind chills between -25 and -35F are possible between Thursday night and Sunday morning with Wind Chills at their lowest Friday morning.
What has changed?
- Snow amounts have decreased slightly but high confidence continues in blowing and drifting snow, low visibility, and very cold wind chills.
