Dear Editor,
I am writing to endorse my wife, Lori B. Sommer, for the Kewaskum School District Board. We have been living in the Farmington area for 10 years now. Both our daughters currently attend Farmington Elementary School, where Lori quickly became involved with the PTO. In order to help support extra-curricular activities for the students at FES, Lori then became a Girl Scout Troop Leader and a Destination Imagination Co-manager. Lori is passionate about education and is a strong advocate for children’s rights. Lori has been working as a school psychologist for almost 20 years and she is as passionate now about her work as she was when she started her career. Lori works tirelessly to make sure her students are functioning well academically, socially, and emotionally. She works closely with parents and teachers to help support her students. Lori is always willing to take on a challenge whenever she sees there is a problem that needs to be fixed. Having Lori serve on the board for the Kewaskum School District will undoubtedly be an asset to the community. She will bring a wealth of knowledge to the team. Her energy and enthusiasm are contagious. Lori will certainly help the Kewaskum School District move forward and keep the interest of the students as a priority.
Thank You,
Dale Sommer
To the editor:
It has been a privilege to serve alongside Kurt Rebholz and Chris Zwygart on the West Bend School Board these last two years. They each bring a rational approach and keen insight to board meetings, always focused on the good of our students, staff, and taxpayers. Through this open mindset, and with the support of administration and staff, collectively we have offered in-person learning since the beginning of this school year, while at the same time offering a virtual option for families needing that distance. There was much discussion amongst the board during last summer’s planning process, but decorum and respect prevailed because we recognize that working together is key to moving forward.
Both Kurt and Chris bring a sharp financial eye to the board, and together with our district financial operations team, have been key in helping the district maintain a consistent property tax mill rate for the last three years. Financial demands are always more than available resources, but together we’ve prioritized these demands, balanced the budget every year, and kept runaway spending in check.
The board’s most important accomplishment this past year was the selection of our new superintendent. Kurt and Chris were instrumental in the interview process, asking challenging questions pertaining to fiscal responsibility, curriculum development and selection, and most certainly COVID-19 contingency planning. Again, there was much discussion about our candidates amongst the board, all done with respect and decorum, and lack of grandstanding.
Please join me in returning the two Z’s – Kurt Rebholz and Chris Zwygart – to the West Bend School Board on Tuesday, April 6th.
Paul Fischer
West Bend School Board
Vice-president
