Letter to the Editor | If this is Election Integrity…voters may want a do over | By Sue True

Washington Co., WI – There are several reasons I’m running as a Registered Write-in Candidate for Washington County Clerk. One is to address voter’s remorse. (If you have voter’s remorse, please note that should you choose to write-in “Sue True” for County Clerk on November 5, your ballot must be examined and hand counted immediately after polls close, for verification of machine tape results.) Obtaining election night hand count data is another reason to run.
Letter to election
I’ve met individuals who voted early for the primary and had regrets after reading the County Clerk Candidate Preview questionnaire in the Daily News. They supported the incumbent based on propaganda for Ashley Reichert’s Election Integrity Package.
As November approaches, we’ll see whether the proposed initiatives come to fruition. Depending on expectations, I suspect more residents will have voter’s remorse. Here’s why:
● Voters may expect election night hand count audits at all municipalities based on the hype for Ashley Reichert’s Election Integrity Package. In my opinion, hand counts at all locations are just as likely to happen as her proposed discontinuation of Central Count (Germantown, West Bend). Both initiatives are longer term goals that looked good on paper with the caveat of “voluntary” participation.
● Voters may be disheartened by the implementation of shorter-term initiatives, like purchasing hardcover cases for the high-tech electronic voting equipment. According to Washington County meeting minutes, $20,000 was budgeted for hard cases to “better protect the expensive equipment”. (Did we just pay the tabulator manufacturer for accessories under the guise of “election integrity?”)
● When it comes to post-election audits like that which took place in 2022, I recommend voters read my report entitled, “The Way I See It…” to understand why they contribute little, if anything, to safeguarding elections.
