Letter to the Editor | Former alderman touts civic service over paycheck | By Randall Koehler

February 8, 2025 – West Bend, Wi – Here’s my .02 on the issue. On average the council meets 26 times per year at an average meeting length of 1.5 hrs equals 39 total hours. Other committees or meetings maybe 24 times per year at 2 hrs each is 48 hrs. If you add this up for a total of 87 hours it comes to $48.68/hr.

Letter to the Editor

Local elected positions are supposed to be about civic service and community involvement, not as a supplemental income. For the amount of time and effort involved I believe compensation is more than adequate.

Mr Allen’s comments saying people can’t afford to run for Alderman are ludicrous. If you’re choosing to get involved in your community to make big $, you’re looking at the wrong position.

I believe our Alderman are fairly compensated.
