Late-season snowfall causes problems in Washington County

April 21, 2021 – Washington Co., WI – A late-season snowfall caught neighbors across Washington County by surprise on Wednesday morning.

A farmers field off I41 in neighboring Fond du Lac County was covered by a blanket of snow as ominous grey clouds drifted to the East.

Heavy snowfall came quickly around 11 a.m. and made for poor visibility for motorists; many described it as whiteout conditions.

Electronic signs at the side of I41 warned of crashes ahead.


Traffic on I41 Southbound was at a standstill at 1:45 p.m. as cleanup was underway following multiple accidents in the area of County Road D and Theresa.

Folks on scene of the of the accident on I41 at Cedar Creek Road said it looked like a bomb went off as mangled vehicles were piled on the roadway.

Flight for Life was called to the scene. At least one fatality has been confirmed.
