October 14, 2024 – Town of Kewaskum, WI – On October 14, 2024 at 11:26 a.m. the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center took a report of an active kitchen fire at a town of Kewaskum residence located at 3404 Hwy 28.
An adult homeowner had observed flames in the kitchen just prior to dialing 911. Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Kewaskum Fire personnel were immediately dispatched to the residence.
Upon arrival, all occupants of the residence had already been self-evacuated (2 adults and 1 child). Two dogs needed assistance in evacuating the residence.
Kewaskum Fire personnel extinguished the flames, preventing further damage to the entire residence. Portions of the home have significant damage because of the fire.
An initial investigation found that a female homeowner was home with child when she heard a pop from the kitchen. When investigating the pop, she observed flames, prompting an immediate call to 911. She and the child evacuated, with the upstairs tenant evacuating soon after.
The female and child were transported to a local hospital for precautionary reasons.
Red Cross was contacted to assist the occupants and Highway 28 was closed to traffic for one hour to assist fire operations. The fire remains under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
The Kewaskum Fire Department was assisted by West Bend, Boltonville, Jackson, Kohlsville and Campbellsport Fire Departments. The Kewaskum Police Department assisted with traffic control.
