August 5, 2021 – Kewaskum, WI – The Kewaskum School Board met for 3 and a half hours Wednesday night to conduct interviews to fill a vacant seat on the board.
Eleven candidates applied for the post.
The board interviewed 10 candidates.
Candidate Karen Strobel was not in attendance but submitted her answers via email.
The board did not make a selection Wednesday evening. That will be determined during its next meeting on August 12.
The opening came about after board member Doug Gonring announced at the end of June 2021 he would be stepping down.
There is one year remaining on his term.
The Kewaskum School Board also discussed mitigation issues for the start of the next school year.
The board did not vote on mitigation factors but expressed consensus that it would not require masks or vaccines.
At one point District Administrator Mark Bazata suggested COVID protocols.
School Board President Jim Leister responded, “We do not need some big government telling us how to run our schools. Everything is a recommendation and until there is a rule made, we will address it at that time.”
Administration is slated to bring a broader plan to the August 12 meeting with those things in mind.
