April 5, 2020 – Jackson, WI – Although cut short by concerns over the coronavirus, the Kettle Moraine Lutheran Chargers boys basketball team had a great season and were still able to end with a win. The team ended with a non-conference record of 22-3 and a conference record of 12-2. This earned the Chargers a No. 2 spot in the WIAA East Central Conference.
Senior Jacob Stoltz describes what the sudden end of the season was like for him, “Our team ended this season on a very sad and unexpected note. It’s still hard to wrap our heads around it all. Our whole team worked so hard with the goals of winning a sectional championship and going on to state, but we were not granted that opportunity. It hurts that we weren’t even given the chance to control our own destiny. It’s not just our team who had a crushing end of the season, but 39 other teams who were in the same boat. However, we all realize the severity of what’s going on. Our world is going through a lot right now and the best thing was for the basketball tournament to be canceled, and we understand that. At the end of the day, it’s just basketball and there’s so much more to life. God has blessed me with six other seniors that I call my brothers and I’m glad I was able to end on a high note with them!”
All seven seniors received the Master of Sport award, meaning they have played a sport all four years, many of them involved in multiple sports.
Senior Michael Wagner described the chemistry of the team, “Our group of seniors has been playing together since fifth grade Jr. Chargers. We won multiple tournaments together and for all of us, our goal was to make the WIAA state tournament. Unfortunately, we were one game away when our season was cut short but we still had an amazing ride. We ended on a win and no other previous boys basketball team at KML can say that.”
