January 1, 2020 – West Bend, WI – It’s been a challenging couple of weeks for the team at the Kettle Moraine Ice Center, 2330 S. Main Street, but a new rink surface is in sight.
On December 14, an equipment failure to the Ice Center’s refrigeration system was detected, forcing the Washington County Youth Hockey Association Board of Directors and it’s staff to make the difficult decision to remove the ice so proper repairs could be made.
“Our main priority is to ensure the safety of our customers, and to get the necessary repairs completed as soon as possible so that we can re-install the ice and get our season back on track” said General Manager Brandon Bayer.
Public events were cancelled and the Washington County Youth Hockey Association was providing updates as the situation evolved.
After two quick weeks of teamwork the rink is close to opening.
“Our hockey community is incredible,” said Bayer. “Volunteers have been helping the Kettle Moraine Ice Center staff re-install the ice this week, and normally scheduled practices are setup for tomorrow, Thursday, January 2, 2020.”
Thank you to all the volunteers that helped throughout the repair process.
