June 26, 2018 – West Bend, WI – The West Bend Noon Rotary handed out a couple awards Monday night at the West Bend Country Club.
Chris Wenzel received Rotarian of the Year and Kellie Boone was presented with the Honorary Paul Harris Fellowship.
“I’m still in awe of being honored,” said Boone at the end of the night.
At the start of the evening Rotary president Amy Salberg praised Chris Wenzel for his inspiration and his drive to “reinvent the club.”
Wenzel received a standing ovation and was humbled by the recognition.
Salberg then started talking about service and commitment as she prepared to announce the 2018 Honorary Paul Harris Fellowship winner.
“She talked about how the person she was going to award this to would be a no brainer because that person was at every event and this person created a great project with the ‘Hidden in Plain Sight’ …. and as soon as she said ‘the room’ … I couldn’t believe she was talking about me,” said Boone.
Salberg saluted Boone’s commitment to the community, how she “lived the four-way test” of a Rotarian, and “there’s no better person for the Paul Harris Award.”
“I felt extremely grateful and honored,” said Boone. “There’s such an amazing group of people in West Bend that are pillars of the community and not just the big check writers but the people that do and do and do like Richard Klumb, Allan Kieckhafer, and Doug Ziegler and they all were Paul Harris Fellows and to get nominated into a category where their names are …. it was really an honor and very awesome.”
