Jackson Police officer saves choking child | By Jackson Police

December 18, 2024 – Jackson, WI – Jackson Police officer quick actions credited for saving choking infant.

Officer Speaks was on patrol when a frantic mother called 911 to report she had pulled her car over on the highway off ramp after she noticed her 3 month old infant was choking in his car seat.

Officer Speaks and Sgt. Brinks rushed to help. Officer Speaks ended up running thru evening rush hour traffic to get to the choking infant as quickly as possible; the infant was tense and not breathing when he got there. Officer Speaks gave the infant back thrusts and chest compressions, which dislodged what he was choking on.

It was a moment of relief when the infant was able to breath again and began crying.

Jackson Police, Slinger Fire Department, and Lifestar EMS Wisconsin responded to the call and the infant was transported to the hospital via ambulance for further medical evaluation. We are happy to report baby Kyland is now recovering at home.

Because we know some of you will ask why Slinger Fire Department and Lifestar responded to this call and not Jackson Fire Department: the JFD crew was battling a barn fire in the Town of Jackson.

JFD and other fire departments across the state participate in a Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS), which is a prearranged plan for fire, EMS, and specialized incident operational teams to provide assistance to each other.

So when one fire department is busy with a large call, neighboring departments step up to help cover any other calls that come in.
