Jan. 24, 2019 – Washington Co., WI – The Ice Lynx 10U is the first all-girl hockey team representing Washington County Youth Hockey Association (WCYHA). This past weekend the team traveled to Onalaska’s Omni Center for an all-girl tournament.
The first game of the weekend on Saturday was against a team from Superior, WI. The Ice Lynx came ready to win with three goals scored in the first period. Superior girls were not giving up but the Ice Lynx skated hard for a 6 to 4 win putting them in good position in the tournament standings.
The second game Saturday put the Ice Lynx back on the ice quickly with a tough competitor from Chippewa Valley, WI. The Ice Lynx could not hold them and lost 6 to 1, putting them in the 2nd seed game on Sunday fighting for 3rd place in the tournament against the Northfield, MN team.
The Ice Lynx were up to the challenge and came out with seven shots on goal against one for Northfield in the first period with period ending score of 1 to 1.
The Ice Lynx knew the trophy was in reach after 18 shots on goal with only two hitting the net the Ice Lynx came out with a 2 to 1 win.
Creating a historic moment for WCYHA and the Ice Lynx, the first-ever trophy brought home by an all-girl team, the first ever all-girl team in WCYHA led by Coach Meagan Sudik.
The Ice Lynx are hosting their first home tournament on Feb 16 and 17 during which they will be hosting Girls Try Hockey Free events at their home ice in West Bend at the Kettle Moraine Ice Center. WCYHA.org
