Horicon Bank and WB COLUMNS race for scholarships

West Bend, WI  – Horicon Bank and West Bend COLUMNS are teaming up to help high school students achieve their goals – but it’s no walk in the park.

“West Bend COLUMNS has been funding scholarships for local high school graduates since 1926,” said Rose Petitte, COLUMNS President and Horicon Bank Senior Vice President. “This year’s ‘Not Just A Walk In The Park 5K’ will be our seventh race to help fund raise for this great cause.”

In 2018, COLUMNS awarded over $450,000 in scholarships to local students and Petitte said a large part of those funds are raised through the “Not Just A Walk In The Park” 5K.

“Last year’s 5K enabled COLUMNS to award $36,000 in scholarships this spring,” said Petitte. “We wouldn’t be able to do that without the support we receive from the community.”

More than 270 runners and walkers registered for the 2018 5K through Riverside Park.

This year’s race on August 1 will take the same route through the park, but Petitte said they hope to continue to attract more participants.

“This year, we’re offering a special discount to our early registrants. Anyone who registers before June 1 will receive $5 off their registration price,” said Petitte.

As organizations invested in their community, both COLUMNS and Horicon Bank recognize the importance of their large partner donors that make the race possible.

“We’d like to specially thank West Bend Mutual, Pick Heaters, Horicon Bank, Murphy and Prachthauser, S.C. and the many other for their contributions to this year’s race,” said Petitte.
