West Bend, WI – Holy Angels School is proud to offer numerous enrichment programs that challenge students and build critical thinking skills.
Students at Holy Angels are fortunate to participate in an enrichment program called Future Problem Solving in 4th and 5th grades.
Global Issues Problem Solving, a component of the Future Problem Solving Program International, is a year-long educational program in which students learn a six-step problem solving process and apply it to future situations in three practice topics they have researched. The practice topics this year were Food Security, Rising Sea Levels, and Agricultural Industry.
The goals of the program are to encourage students to become more creative in their thinking, to develop richer images of the future, to increase their research skills, to learn cooperative teamwork skills, and to increase their written and verbal communication skills.
This year, while participating in the program for the first time, Holy Angels School is proud to congratulate a dozen fifth graders, competing on three teams, for qualifying for the State Bowl. The winning students are Janessa S, Quinn K, Ellyson S, Ainsley P, Finley S, Josie D, Ryan S, Benjamin W, Emmylia S, Harper R, Delaney C and Ty B.
At the State Bowl, Global Issues Problem Solvers will identify challenges, an underlying problem, and solutions for a future situation related to the topic of Nanotechnology. They will also develop criteria to use in selecting the best solution and write an action plan for implementing it.
This written team effort is completed in a two-hour time frame. In addition, students will plan and present four-minute presentations to introduce their best solution action plan to an audience.
The Future Problem Solving Program International is global in scope, involving over 200,000
students from a majority of states and many foreign countries. Congratulations to our Holy Angels FPS teams and Mrs. Gunnare, their teacher. Good luck at State!
