In between all the last-minute shopping, holiday parties and whatnot – just a reminder that blood donations normally drop off this time of year although the need is greater than ever.
The Blood Center of Wisconsin, 130 Valley Ave., West Bend is open on Christmas Eve from 6 a.m. – 1 p.m. Closed on Christmas day, the Blood Center reopens Saturday at 6:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.
On a personal note, I try to donate regularly. Earlier this year, during a slow day, one of the nurses at the Blood Center was struck by the number on my card. “I haven’t seen that in years,” she said. “You must have been donating for some time.”
She ran my record and found, something like 250 units and then said. “You started donating in 1982.” One of the other nurses spins around and says, “Hey, that’s the year I was born.”
Merry Christmas. Dinosaur Steffes
