Washington County, WI – Changes are being proposed for the 2022 transit schedule with Washington County Commuter Express (WCCE).
The proposed revised WCCE Schedule can be found at: New Schedule – Proposed 1-03-21.pdf.
The full revisions, including old run numbers, can be found at: Full Schedule Changes with Old Runs 1-03-21.pdf.
The reduced schedule is planned to start in January 2022.
This is not the first time WCCE adjusted its schedule and reduced service. In September 2021 WCCE said it would combine some routes for five weeks through October 29, 2021 because of “ongoing staffing shortages.”
Summary of current proposed changes to the WCCE:
- The current schedule has 23 runs. The new schedule would have 16 runs; 8 in the a.m. and 8 in the p.m. One run in the a.m. and one run in the p.m. is combined as mentioned above.
- Current Runs 1, 10, 11, 13, 17, and 21 would be suspended.
- Runs 7 & 10 are now combined into one run for the Medical Center area, the VA, and Downtown Milwaukee – this would be Run 6.
- Runs 16 & 17 are now combined into one run for Downtown Milwaukee, VA, and the Medical Center- this would be Run 9.
- Stops at Wisconsin & Plankinton; Rivercenter and Cherry; GE Health/Innovative Dr.; CBS 58 which is 60th Street and Pierce Street; and Summit Place/70th and Washington are all eliminated.
Some parents in Washington County whose children use WCCE to get to Marquette High School in Milwaukee are disappointed with the proposed changes.
Families who have been attending meetings about the service acknowledge some modifications are necessary in order to improve efficiency and save money. However, some of the families affected by the proposed changes, including a possible bus exchange at the county border to metro lines, fee. these are not good solutions.
