Hartford Union High School celebrates 3 prestigious Herb Kohl Education Award winners | By Katrina Cravy

March 20, 2024 – Hartford, WI – Excellence in education is not going unnoticed at Hartford Union High School (HUHS), as the school proudly honors three of their own as Herb Kohl Educational Foundation award winners. Kim Yohn, an Agricultural Sciences teacher, along with students Isabelle Haeft and Lindsey Radermacher, are being recognized for their achievements.

Superintendent Jeff Walters expressed immense pride. “This accolade truly reflects Ms. Yohn’s dedication to excellence and her profound impact on her students each day. The achievements of Isabelle and Lindsay are also exciting as they embody the vibrant spirit and scholarly excellence of HUHS inside and outside the classroom.”

Kim Yohn, recognized with a Teacher Fellowship award, shares her gratitude. “The Herb Kohl Fellow award to me is a reminder that being a good teacher is about, more than anything, the community.” Her passion for teaching and creating a collaborative environment shines through as she said her colleagues were instrumental in helping achieve this award.

Students Isabelle Haeft and Lindsey Radermacher have each been honored with a significant $10,000 Student Excellence and Initiative Scholarship. Haeft said, “I am honored and excited to accept this award and scholarship! I am grateful to have this support my education.”

Similarly, Lindsay Radermacher voiced her gratitude, stressing the role of her support system, “This scholarship is a direct reflection of the support and mentoring I received from my family, my school, and my community.”

In a touching note, teacher Kim Yohn said, “I also feel pretty honored to be recognized in the same year that my FFA president, Izzy, is being recognized. Students like Izzy are why I do what I do.”

In recognition of Yohn’s accomplishments, both she and HUHS will benefit from grants of $6,000 each to encourage ongoing educational innovation.

The Herb Kohl Educational Foundation’s expansive generosity continues to enlighten Wisconsin’s public schools. With 304 phenomenal students, teachers, and administrators being celebrated in 2024 for their impressive endeavors, the Foundation carries on the legacy of its late founder, former U.S. Senator, and philanthropist Herb Kohl.

Dedicated educators, like Kim Yohn, and the exuberance of academic achievers like Isabelle and Lindsay reaffirm the strength of commitment to education in Hartford and beyond.
