Hartford, WI – The Hartford Rotary Club and Hartford Union High School (HUHS) are pleased to announce that Margaret Colwell and Kira Kirsch were honored recently as Rotary Students of the Month.
The students were given special recognition for their accomplishments at the Hartford Rotary Club’s Thursday noon meetings during the month of November.
Margaret Colwell is the daughter of Ann and Joe Colwell. Colwell is involved in the Fall
Musical, Aviation Club, National Honors Society, SMART team (Students Modeling a Research Topic), 4-H, H-Club, Track and Field, and Archery. She received special recognition by being selected as a Global Youth Delegate for the World Food Prize and Borlaug Scholar. Colwell is a three-year varsity cross country runner and also qualified for FBLA State in Broadcast Journalism.
Colwell has given back to her community by participating in community service activities
through her church and Hartford Union High School’s National Honor Society and H-Club. She also volunteers for the Special Olympics as a lifeguard.
Colwell has an acute interest in the science world and loves exploring proteins. She
plans to study Human Factors Psychology, with a minor in aeronautical and aerospace
engineering. Colwell is not sure which university she will attend, however, her dream school is Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.
Kira Kirsch is the daughter of Jenifer and Mike Kirsch. Kirsch is a member of the
Varsity Girls Tennis Team, Girls Softball, H-Club, Student Council, the Math Team, and Math
Club, National Honor Society, Creatif (literary magazine), and the Fellowship of Christian
Athletes. She was selected as Girls Tennis Team Captain and was named to the Homecoming and Prom Court at HUHS. Kirsch has been enrolled in many honors and AP classes including Honors English 9, Honors English 10, AP Language and Composition, AP Government and Politics, AP US History, AP Psychology, Honors Algebra II, Honors Geometry, AP Calculus AB, AP Biology, and AP Chemistry. In addition to completing the biomedical science program through Project Lead the Way and these high-level courses, Kirsch also completed a semester at Baylor University.
Kirsch has given back to her community by volunteering her time as a Religious
Education teaching assistant, academic coach, and peer mentor and serving as chair of the
HUHS Student Council Blood Drive.
After graduation from HUHS, Kirsch plans to further her education majoring in
Biochemistry to eventually pursue a career in medicine specializing in Pediatric Cardiology.
