September 11, 2022 – Hartford, WI – A select number of City of Hartford residents have requested a longer pedestrian crossing time at the intersection of E. Sumner Street and Hwy K. Those residents trying to get across the state highway are attempting to get to Walgreens for necessary prescriptions.

Crossing lights only allow three settings for the amount of time to cross and these are set at the longest period to cross. Since this is a state highway, the Department of Transportation has authority over this crossing and has a maximum time it allows for these lights to stay in a crossing pattern.

Please note, if you are having difficulties crossing Sumner on one light, there is the option to cross halfway and wait at the center island for the next light cycle to cross the remaining distance.

Also, keep in mind if the need arises and you want to be extremely safe in getting around while experiencing mobility issues, the City Taxi is always available to get
residents to all important appointments.
