Hartford Union HS student paper dominates NEWSPA State Contest with 21 awards | By Katrina Cravy

Hartford, WI – In an impressive showcase of journalistic talent, the Hartford Chronicle won the Blue Ribbon award during the NEWSPA Northeastern Wisconsin Scholastic Press Association awards for the 11th year in a row. Hartford Union High School journalists also won 21 individual awards spanning writing, design, and photography.

Student Editor-in-Chief Elena Rettler and reporters Calvin Kenney, Georgie Beltran, Devin Elsmo, Jack Jensen, and Savanaha Balicki all won individual awards.

Teacher Mr. Jeff Carter was also honored with the “Skip Zacher Advisor of the Year” award.

“The unfaltering excellence displayed by the Hartford Chronicle and its dedicated staff is an inspiration to aspiring student journalists across the state,” said District Superintendent Jeff Walters. “We are proud of their accomplishments and hope more students will see this class as a pathway to express their creativity and engage critically with the world around them.”
