October 8, 2021 – Germantown, WI – Germantown (5-2, 4-1) hosts Brookfield Central (3-5, 2-3) in a game that may not mean anything to the Warhawks regarding the state playoffs (the Warhawks have already qualified), but it can spoil the Lancers’ bid for a playoff spot (they must win their last two games to qualify).
Germantown is coming off a dominating 50-7 win in its last game against West Allis Hale, while Brookfield Central lost its last game to Sussex Hamilton 41-14, the latter of whom have sealed up the Greater Metro Conference barring losing their last two games (including one against Brookfield East, whom Germantown owns the tiebreaker over).
Germantown won the 2020 meeting against the Lancers, 21-10, but Brookfield has won three of the last four games against Germantown.
The two teams are nearly equal in scoring effectiveness, with the Warhawks scoring 187 total points this season, while the Lancers have scored 170 total points.
Where the two teams differ is how they produced their offense, with Germantown being one the most balanced teams in the Greater Metro Conference with 1,122 rushing yards and 1,164 passing yards with 11 touchdowns in each category, while Brookfield Central heavily favors their run game with it producing 1,533 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns versus a passing game that has just 429 yards and 3 touchdowns.
The Lancers top of the conference rushing attack is led by the conference’s top running back, junior Drew Edmond, who has 723 rushing yards on 108 running attempts with 11 rushing touchdowns and is the only rusher in the conference to have over 100 rushing yards per game.
Germantown’s leading rusher is senior Aaron Grant, has 615 rushing yards on 71 carries for a conference leading 8.7 yards per rushing attempt and 7 rushing touchdowns, all third best in the Greater Metro Conference.
Germantown has utilized two quarterbacks this season, junior Henry Kelley and junior Jake Reinke, both of whom have effective this season under center for the Warhawks. Kelley has gone 47 for 78 (60.3% completion) with 616 passing yards, 6 touchdowns and 1 interception in 4 games. Reinke is 27 for 70 (52.9% completion) with 506 passing yards, 5 touchdowns and 1 interception in 5 games this season, filling in for an injured Kelley in week 2’s win against Hartford until week 6 when Kelley reclaimed the starting role.
It will be an interesting matchup for the Warhawks’ offense, as they face a Lancers’ defensive unit that has surrender 21 points or more in all but one game this season. Germantown’s defense may have surrendered 121 total points this season (17.3 points per game), but they have shutout their opponents in every third quarter this season.
The Warhawks will host the Lancers on Friday, October 8, 2021 with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
