The Germantown Wisconsin Fire Department arrived on scene and extricated the driver from the vehicle. Due to the severity of the crash and injuries, Flight for Life was notified for emergent transport. With assistance from Wisconsin State Patrol, Washington County, Wisconsin Sheriff’s Office, and the Menomonee Falls Police Department, the interstate was closed for nearly two hours.
The driver of that vehicle, Jack Gerlach, a Slinger High School senior, was transported to Froedtert-Wauwatosa where he immediately received life-saving surgery. After over 100 days in the hospital, Jack was released and cleared to return home. Jack is still receiving extensive amounts of therapy but is making progress daily.
This past week, the first responding officers and the communication officer who assisted Jack were able to meet him in person.
Officer Ferrante, Sergeant Farnsworth, Communications Officer Paulus and Officer Duckert exchanged ‘Step Brothers’ and ‘Dumb and Dumber’ movie quotes with Jack.
Jack remains in good spirits and his positive attitude is infectious.
