Germantown Police K9 has died | By Germantown Police Chief Snow

January 27, 2020 – Germantown, WI – The Germantown Police Department has issued a statement regarding the death of its K9 officer Rambo.

Germantown K9 Rambo

As most of you know K9 Rambo, our second Department K9, retired a number of years ago. Rambo’s health began to decline several months ago. It is with great sadness that we must report K9 Rambo died this morning at about 9:30 a.m.

In March of 2010, Lt. Huesemann traveled to Faus K9 Specialties in Elkhart, Indiana and selected “Rambo” to be the Germantown Police Department’s second K9. Rambo was a long-haired German Shepherd Dog imported from the Czech Republic. Rambo was a dual purpose K9 that was trained to detect controlled substances such as marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine.

Rambo was also trained to perform patrol/utility functions such as handler protection, suspect apprehension, tracking, building searches and area searches. Rambo was sworn in on April 28, 2010 and was assigned with Lieutenant Huesemann to second shift for his entire career.

On August 7, 2017 K9 Rambo retired from the Germantown Police Department after seven years of service. Rambo was experiencing some health problems and it was decided he should retire before the problems got worse.

Upon his retirement, K9 enjoyed a life of leisure as a house pet with Lt. Huesemann and his family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Lt. Dave Huesemann, and his entire family, as they deal with the loss of their beloved Rambo. I understand many members of the community share that grief as so many followed Rambo throughout his career and participated in the many fund raisers held to support the K9 unit. We thank you for your continued support.
