CPO Case was one of the most beloved officers in the history of the department by both members of the department and citizens of the community. He was highly regarded for his quick wit, sense of humor, outgoing personality, and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

During his exceptional career, Bob excelled the most during his assignment as the department’s Crime Prevention Officer. The tasks were well suited to Bob’s personality and talents. He took great pride in organizing the Citizen Police Academy where members of the community learned a great deal about police work over the course of several months. He attended community functions and sat on many boards to improve relations with our community.

One of Bob’s greatest accomplishments was our Youth Academy. He designed a program to teach students what officers do. He also implemented an obstacle course for fun and to test the fitness of participants. To this day the youth academy remains one of our most popular programs and fills up very fast, each year.

Bob was regarded as the go-to person in the department when it came to fitness and nutrition. His workday typically ended with a group of officers in the fitness room, running through some type of high-intensity training that Bob put together. To this day we have a huge chalkboard in the fitness room with several of the workouts Bob came up with.

In 2014 Bob was diagnosed with Chondrosarcoma, a rare bone cancer. At that time the cancer was localized to his rib, and he had surgery to remove the tumor along with a section of his rib cage. After a short recovery, Bob returned to work. In 2018 it was learned the cancer had metastasized to his right hip and femur. Bob needed further surgeries and continued to battle to the point where he was able to walk again. As the physical limitations grew, Bob was forced to retire from the Germantown Police Department in August of 2020. During these struggles, Bob maintained his positive outlook and love for the profession.

Bob’s impact on the department and community cannot be overstated. It is certainly true he went far too early. It is also true that with the time he had, Bob did more than most and left a legacy that will be admired for many years. He remained an inspiration to all who knew him.

We pray God be with Bob’s family and friends, that He grant them some level of comfort, and that He keep us mindful of the blessing Bob was to all.

  1. I was one of those local citizens that had the great fortune and honor to participate in Bob’s Citizen Police Academy. He did an incredible job at everything he did despite all the challenges. He could not have been a better ambassador for his profession, fellow officers, the Village of Germantown, Washington County, and his country. We all lost a great man. Sincere condolences to his family, friends, and everyone else who got to know him.
