Funeral today for Theodore W. “Ted” Schmidt, 84, of Westboro

Oct. 6, 2017 – Theodore W. “Ted” Schmidt, 84, of Westboro, passed into glory on October 3, 2017, at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau. He was born on December 26, 1932 to Carl and Lena Schmidt in Watertown. He graduated Lutheran High school in Milwaukee in 1950. Ted served in the Army in Korea from 1953-1955 and then went on to serve in the Army Reserve’s throughout the 60’s. He worked as a journeyman carpenter for several years before working for the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 1988 as a station manager. Ted married Inez DePas on September 27, 1989.

Ted participated in the Honor Flight in May of 2016. He was also a member of the Westboro VFW.

Ted and Inez loved to travel and were always “gone again.” His dream was to visit Alaska, which he was able to do shortly before his passing. They made beautiful music together. He loved nature and the outdoors, volunteering, and spending time with his family and friends. His incredible cooking will be missed.

In addition to his wife, Inez, he is survived by the children from his first marriage to Carole Anne Koch, Bill (Ann) Schmidt of West Bend, Bob Schmidt of Germantown, and Dan (Jenny) Schmidt of West Bend, children from his second marriage to Janice Hanig, Shelby (Ken) Brotz of Richfield, Kelly Schmidt of West Bend, and Kent Schmidt of Hartland, and children from his current marriage to Inez, Kathy McNabb of Bloomsbury, NJ, and Mark Grandin of Columbus, TX, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ted is further survived by his brother Bill (Barb) Schmidt and many other family and friends.

Ted is preceded in death by his previous wives Carole and Janice, and two sisters Catherine Kriehn and Dorothy Schiessl.

Funeral services for Ted will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Whittlesey, W5334 Dassow Ave. Medford, WI at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Randal Jeppesen officiating.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Whittlesey from 12:00 Noon until the time of service at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers memorial donation in Ted’s name may be given to the Westboro VFW.

Ted is now playing guitar, banjo, and singing in the heavenly band.

Hemer Funeral Service of Medford and Rib Lake has been entrusted with arrangements.
