July 1, 2024 – Fond du Lac Co., WI – On Sunday, June 30, 2024 at approximately 7:45pm, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received several 911calls reporting a motorcycle crash on State Highway 45 near Gatzke Lane in the Town of Auburn, Fond du Lac County.
Initial information gathered indicated that two motorcycles had been involved.
One had struck a deer and the other crashed when attempting to avoid the first crash. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputies along with Campbellsport Ambulance, Campbellsport Fire Department and Eden Fire Department all responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, first responders observed three individuals with injuries. One man had serious injuries and another male and female with minor injuries.
Initial investigation indicates a 23-year-old Adell man was traveling southbound on State Highway 45 near the Milwaukee River.
Prior to reaching the bridge, a deer jumped out from the west ditch into the road. The Adell man struck the deer causing him lay his motorcycle down. He slid on the roadway into the bridge guardrail before being thrown from his motorcycle.
His motorcycle slid back into the lane causing the second motorcycle, operated by a 23-year-old Kewaskum man with passenger, 25-year-old Oconomowoc woman, to collied with it, causing them to also lay their motorcycle down before being thrown from it.
Due to the seriousness of the Adell man’s injuries, Flight for Life was requested to the scene and flew him to ThedaCare Trauma Center in Neenah. The Kewaskum man and Oconomowoc woman were treated on scene and released.
US Highway 45 was shut down between County Highway V and County Highway Y for approximately 1 hour. The Adell man was wearing a helmet, the Kewaskum man and Oconomowoc woman were not. Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors in the crash.
Further assisting at the scene was the Washington County Sheriff’s Office with traffic control and City of Fond du Lac Ambulance with a paramedic intercept.
