Nov. 11, 2016 – Village of Richfield, WI – On Friday November 11, 2016 at approximately 8:10 a.m., a resident located in the 700 block of Hillside Road, Village of Richfield, contacted the Sheriff’s Office to request an ambulance for a male subject reportedly hit in the head by a log. Deputies and Rescue personnel from the Richfield Fire Department were subsequently dispatched to the scene. Upon their arrival, rescue personnel were directed to a nearby wooded area, and subsequently located a 65-year-old Oconomowoc man with a significant head injury. Due to the nature and mechanism of his injury, rescue personnel requested Flight for Life to the scene.
Deputies facilitated Flight for Life’s landing near the intersection of Hillside Road and Meadow View Court. The patient was then brought to the landing zone via ambulance. Hillside Road in the area of Meadow View Court was closed for approximately 15 minutes to facilitate Flight for Life’s landing and takeoff. The man was subsequently flown to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa.
An investigation revealed the Oconomowoc man and his wife were on the property cutting firewood. In the process of cutting down a dead tree, a large branch broke off of the trunk, and struck the man in the head. While the man’s injuries are serious, they are not considered life threatening.
