Washington County, WI – National Fire Prevention Week will run from October 9-15, 2022; the week of observances will begin with Richfield Fire Company’s Annual Fire Prevention Kick-Off at Station 2, 4166 Hubertus Road, tonight, October 7, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 pm.
In 1925, President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed Fire Prevention Week a national
observance, making it the longest-running public health observance in our country.
It is the intent during Fire Prevention Week to educate children and adults on being safe in case of a fire. Across the nation, firefighters will attempt to decrease casualties caused by fire through week-long education opportunities.
Fire Prevention Week 2022 takes place October 9-15. The teaching theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week is Fire won’t wait, plan your escape. This theme reinforces the critical importance of developing a home escape plan with all members of the household and practicing it regularly.
Many of the local fire departments will be hosting educational events, such as open houses and school visits to help promote the learning lesson this year.
