5 fire departments quickly douse garage fire in Township of Byron | By Sgt. Brian Bednarek

July 10, 2024 – Fond du Lac Co., Wi – On Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at approximately 10:42 p.m., The Fond du Lac County Communications Center received a 911 call from a resident at W7187 Briar Court, in the Township of Byron. The resident advised there was a fire in the garage and smoke was coming from everywhere.

A deputy with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and confirmed all the occupants and pets were out of the residence. The deputy observed smoke coming from the attached garage.

The Oakfield Fire Department and First Responders, along with fire departments from Lamartine Fire, Town of Fond du Lac Fire, RIT 4, and MED 21 Fond du Lac Fire, all arrived on scene and quickly extinguished the fire.

Due to the quick response of the fire departments, the fire was unable to spread and was limited to the attached garage and breezeway to the residence.

Some of items within the garage are believed to be a loss. A vehicle and riding lawn mower in the garage sustained damage. The living quarters of the house had minor amounts of smoke throughout the residence.

Through investigation it was determined the fire is believed to have started along the southwest wall of the garage next to a hover board that was charging. The fire is not considered suspicious. There were no reports of civilian or emergency personnel injured during the course of the fire.
