Some excitement tonight at Regal Ware tonight as a fire at the plant on Schmidt Road forced evacuation of a building. Newburg and West Bend Fire Departments were called to the scene around 6:45 p.m.
“It was a friction fire with a buffing machine,” said Battalion Chief Chuck Beistle. “It got up into the dust collector above it and went through the duct work and it ended up burning filters at the end.”
There was moderate to heavy smoke; the fire was contained to that machine area. The plant has been shut down for the evening but will resume operation on Thursday.
Firefighters were on scene for a little more than an hour. Fire extinguishers were used to put out the fire and the building is currently being ventilated.
Nobody was injured and about 15 people were evacuated.
