Upon investigation, it was determined a southbound vehicle on CTH D failed to negotiate a curve, overcorrected, and entered the northbound lane, resulting in a head-on collision with a northbound vehicle.
The southbound vehicle, occupied by three individuals, was driven by a 19-year-old man from Pharr, Texas, who was ejected from the vehicle as he was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The other two occupants suffered minor injuries and were later transported to a hospital by private vehicle. The driver of the northbound vehicle, a 48-year-old female from Oakfield, Wisconsin, was wearing her seatbelt and was uninjured, subsequently released from the scene.
Witnesses at the scene reported observing the 19-year-old male speeding prior to the crash. Speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors to the incident.
CTH D remained closed for approximately four hours to facilitate emergency response operations and investigation by The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team.
Assisting agencies included the Town of Fond du Lac Fire Department, City of Fond du Lac Fire Department, and The Fond du Lac County Highway Department.
