August 17, 2018 – Washington Co., WI – One person is dead following a horrific two vehicle accident Friday afternoon on southbound I-41 just south of Highway 33.
The accident happened just after 4:30 p.m. and involved two vehicles including a jackknifed semi.
Washington County Sheriffs deputies immediately shut down the interstate in both directions.
According to a witness who was traveling in the second car behind the semi, “A car with 1 person heading northbound crossed the median and struck the rear of a semi in the back axels. The car was unidentifiable and spread across the southbound freeway. The semi jumped up and slid jackknifed position.”
The witness said he exited his car to lend assistance. The semi driver appeared shaken but OK.
Authorities are attempting to notify relatives of the motorist involved.
Washington County Sheriff Dale Schmidt said I-41 southbound will be shut off at Highway 33 to Highway K for the next several hours until about 7 p.m.
