Fatal accident in Town of Wayne | By Washington County Sheriff’s Department

July 14, 2018 – Town of Wayne, WI – Today at 11:03 a.m. the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an accident with injuries on Interstate 41 north of Canary Lane in the Town of Wayne. Callers reported one vehicle was on fire, there may be people trapped in another vehicle and there was someone doing CPR on a subject on the side of the roadway.  Squads were dispatched along with Fire & Rescue from Kohlsville, Kewaskum, Allenton and West Bend Intercept.

When the first Sheriff’s Deputy arrived the vehicle fire had been put out by a passerby with a fire extinguisher and CPR was actively being conducted on a male subject on the side of the roadway. There were two female subjects in the second vehicle; the driver was trapped and was in need of extrication.  There were numerous motorists who were assisting on scene.

Witnesses reported for an unknown reason a southbound vehicle crossed through the median and struck a northbound vehicle. The southbound vehicle was being operated by the male subject who was on the roadway and he was fully ejected from the vehicle.  The northbound vehicle was in the right lane when it was struck almost head-on.

A complete closure of Interstate 41 was conducted for just over 2 hours. Northbound traffic remains closed at this time to allow for the Washington County Accident Reconstruction Team to do their work.  The male operator of the southbound vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The female passenger of the northbound vehicle was transported to Froedtert Hospital.  The female driver of the northbound vehicle was extricated from the vehicle by the use of jaws.  She was then transported to Froedtert Hospital via Flight for Life for serious injuries.

There is no further information being released at this time as this is an active investigation.
