August 28, 2017 – Fond du Lac, WI – One man died and another was injured when a car ran into the back of a semi truck at the intersection of Fond du Lac County Highway F and Highway 175 south of Fond du Lac Monday morning.
Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Captain Ryan Waldschmidt said the car hit the rear tandem axles of the trailer of the semi with enough force to roll the semi onto its side.
Authorities said heavy objects inside the cab of the semi struck the driver causing more injury than the actual rollover.
Because of the fog and a thunderstorm a medical helicopter was not available to land at the scene. Both drivers were taken by ambulance to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac where the 62-year-old semi driver from Salinas, California died.
The driver of the car was a 24-year-old Fond du Lac man. The State Patrol is handling the accident investigation.
The truck driver failed to yield at a stop sign.
