West Bend, WI – Witte’s Vegetable Market,
Gus Witte, owner of Witte’s Vegetable Market, shares his obstacles with farming.
“Farming in good times can seem easy and fun while it is bad times can test the strongest of wills,” Witte said. “Farming is ascending to the highest of positions only to go and do the lowliest of tasks on a daily basis. So many people want to romanticize this or use it to have some influence in today’s online society. When in all honesty it’s the exact opposite of what they are portraying.”

“This is why I try give you a real glimpse of what happens on our farm. So today when we didn’t have enough pea and strawberry pickers to get both tasks done, I threw down and picked sugar snaps with my high schoolers,” Witte said. “I can’t tell the last time I have done it, but I still showed those kids I got it. I’m sure tonight will be a different story and my body will remind me that I don’t. However, nothing a brandy old fashioned and a fish fry can’t take care of.”
