February 1, 2025 – West Bend, Wi – A new Mexican ice cream shop, La Michoacana, will be opening in the coming month in the spot formerly home to Family Video, 1310 W. Washington Street, in West Bend, WI.
Family Video closed in January 2021 and the spot, to the north of the pizza shop has been for lease for the past four years.
The La Michoacana website describes its product as “Mexican-inspired traditions.”
According to the web page: “We help you create and reminisce your family’s best childhood moments in the comfort of your own home, park, sidewalk (or anywhere really) with the people you love! At La Michoacana we produce high-quality and innovative paletas, bolis and cups, spreading felicidad throughout thousands of retail stores in the United States. Our paletas have real ice cream and/or inclusions like fruit, nuts, and chocolate that you can see and taste in every paleta, bolis, or cup.”
There are four La Michoacana franchise locations in the Milwaukee area. This would be the first store in Washington County, WI.
Currently a Dumpster is in front of the shop as a buildout is underway.

January 7, 2021 – West Bend, WI – Following the announcement this week that all Family Video stores will be closing, including the one in West Bend, comes confirmation that the owner of the parcel at 1310 W. Washington Street will try to lease the remaining space the video store is in and Marco’s Pizza will stay open.
According to Adam Williquette with American Commercial Real Estate there will be 5,600-square-feet available.
Family video opened in West Bend in 2004. It replaced Hardee’s which had opened around 1983.
According to Family Video here is a liquidation at the store and Familyvideo.com will still have items available online.
