June 19, 2021 – Slinger, WI – A family of three escaped an early morning house fire in the 4400 block of Summit Ridge on Saturday, June 19, 2021. The fire call came in around 5:37 a.m. after strong storms with heavy rain and lightning moved through the area.
“Flames were coming from the roof as we arrived on scene,” said Slinger assistant fire chief Brad Schaefer. “We called for mutual aid and started extinguishing the fire.”
Slinger firefighters received mutual aid from nearly a dozen area fire departments. Three people inside the home were standing outside when emergency crews arrived.
Neighbors, including Susan Bossert, said she was awakened by a large crack of lightning. “I got up and looked around and then I heard sirens,” she said.
Stepping outside her home Bossert saw black smoke and flames rising from her neighbor’s home.
Washington County Sheriff’s cordoned off the road as tanker trucks carted water to the scene.
Nobody was injured although one firefighter was treated on scene and released for a heat-related situation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage to the home is deemed substantial. Around 9 a.m. smoke was seen above the second-story roofline of the home and firefighters were still extinguishing hot spots.
