VIDEO | Washington County Fair’s clever announcement for Friday night headliner

April 6, 2022 – Washington Co., WI – There was a bit of clever theatre behind the much-awaited Friday night headliner announcement for this year’s Washington County Fair.  One of the crew from the Fair Park’s maintenance department, Keith Martin, teamed with executive director Kellie Boone to build excitement, make an entrance…. and then get kicked off the stage.

“I even had on a fake mullet,” said Martin. “I told Kellie, if we’re going to do this, we’re going to do it right… and I’m getting a mullet.”

Amazon helped make that prop happen.

Martin resurrected his high school guitar from his days as a Bay View High School Red Cat and he channeled the band Poison and Bret Michaels.

“I played guitar for many years and trumpet in high school,” Martin said. “I played the first chord from one of his songs… and stuck with that.”

Martin and Boone did three takes to get it right.

“The toughest thing was the angle with the lighting,” he said. “It was a blast. I don’t think anybody has even realized it was me.”

Martin said, the team at the Fair Park has had fun with it. “And that mullet has been floating around here too,” he said.

Questioned if he could have a Fair Park, hard rock band… what would it be called?

“The C-team,” he said. “Not quite good enough for the A-team but good enough for the C-team.”
