A big night at Silverbrook Middle School this week as band directors Heidi Baumann-Schuppel wrapped up 26 years in teaching including 17 years at Silverbrook. “This is my last hurrah,” said Baumann-Schuppel as she informed her students she would be retiring.
Aside from playing a commissioned piece of music written by award-winning composer Michael Sweeney, Baumann-Schuppel recognized one student the 2016 Silverbrook Bands Award for Excellence.
Baumann-Schuppel read a list of qualities that were impressive. “This sixth grader has a continuous desire to learn, a love of music, has contributed in a positive manor to the overall band program. Has maintained a positive attitude about music performance, has a high standard of behavior, has shown leadership qualities within band, has maintained a really high standard of academic achievement in band, has helped others at all times and never complained.”
The 2016 award winner was Ethan Lebeck.
