Elderly woman injured in 2-vehicle accident

Washington County Sheriff

The Washington County Sheriff responded to a two-vehicle accident in the 6900 block of STH 144 on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 3:58 p.m.

The investigation revealed an 89-year-old West Bend woman was northbound on STH 144 when she crossed the center line and struck a southbound vehicle operated by a 27-year-old Sheboygan man.

The southbound vehicle struck a guardrail, and the northbound vehicle continued off road right and struck a building.

It is believed the northbound driver experienced a medical emergency that contributed to the crash as she was highly disoriented after the collision.

The woman was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Through a considerable amount of follow-up, the investigating deputy was able to locate family members in Whitewater, who in turn, were able to contact other geographically closer family members to respond to St. Joseph’s Hospital.

The investigating deputy also located red paint transfer on the northbound vehicle that was consistent with a hit and run accident that occurred in the city of West Bend less than 30 minutes prior to this accident.

A driver-condition report was filed with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to evaluate the north bound operator’s ability to safely operate a vehicle.

The southbound operator was not hurt.
